ESPN NHL Scores: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Detroit Red Wings

Starting a new winning streak, the Tampa Bay Lightning head into Detroit to push their current two-game streak, to three.

Continuing the fall, the Detroit Red Wings are now 1-7-2 in their last ten games with two playoff teams coming to town, to finish off the week.

Tampa Bay Lighting

After being shut-out by the Minnesota Wild, the Tampa Bay Lightning decided to have their way with the Winged Wheel. Then stopped over in Toronto to teach a lesson to the young Maple Leafs. The top-scoring offense had not taken many off-nights this season, with 66 goals-for and a 28.51 PP% and they surely made the Wings and Leafs pay for what the Wild did to them.

As hockey observers, we know the Lightning can find goals from any line on the team. An 11.7 shooting percentage for the season is hard to come by. With three players producing over a point-per-game pace, the Lightning will continue to score and add to their +89 goal differential.

Nikita Kucherov was expected to score, but Brayden Point (who has won awards in two-straight seasons) has taken another massive step forward this year. He’s already surpassed his career best in goals and points, and his 21.6% shooting percentage had a lot to do with it. Expect Point to take advantage of facing a very spotty defensive and less than average goaltending.

Detroit Red Wings

Surprisingly enough, the Detroit Red Wings won a game, a week ago, with both Dylan Larkin and Mike Green missing ice-time. Detroit’s victory did come against a fellow bottom-feeder in the New York Rangers, so the only thing to gather from that win is that the Red Wings current prospects are better than New York’s.

Ho-hum.

The Detroit Red Wings are 1-7-2 in their last ten games, and there is no reason to expect the team to trend any better, heading into April. The Wings are the 24th ranked possession team and are about to face-off against the best shooting team and a top 5 defensive team.

As a top-5 team in goals against and bottom 6 in goals for, the Red Wings have struggled mightily to keep pace with any outfit and not having their two best forwards (Larkin being hurt and Nyquist having been traded) they are sure to keep losing.

Free NHL Predictions: Detroit Red Wings @ Tampa Bay Lightning

This past Saturday the Lightning beat the Red Wings, but a 3-2 score was not something a hardcore fan would’ve predicted. I think the Lightning are prepared to hand out a thorough lashing tonight and the injuries piling up, on the Detroit bench, will be the cause. Larkin is officially out, Green is done for the season, and now Ericsson.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning -400, Over 6.5
