Welcome to this Atlantic Division matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. The Lightning are having an okay season. They are surprisingly just barely over .500 and sit in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic Division. They are fourth in scoring in the Eastern Conference with 103 goals and they have a goal differential of 11. The Lightning are 5-4-1 in their last ten games and 1-4 in their last five one goal games. Nikita Kucherov leads the team in assists with 21 and points with 31. The Panthers are having a nice season. They are second in the Atlantic Division, 6-4 in their last ten games, and they have won their last two games. Florida is a plus six in goal differential and third in scoring in the Eastern Conference with 105. The Panthers are currently on a six game home stand, where they have so far gone 3-1. Each of their three wins were by a three plus goal margin. This team has four skaters who have double digits in goals and assists.
The Lightning are coming off a 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders. Tampa Bay out shot New York 32-24, but still ended up with a rough score. The Bolts didn't come up clutch in their good scoring chances and the Islanders did. Also, Tampa was robbed a few times by the Islanders goaltender. The Lightning won 58 percent of the face offs and didn't use that to their advantage. A lot of minus stats throughout the lineup and they will need to tighten things up. Some bad trends for Tampa Bay is that the Lightning are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record and are 1-5 in their last 6 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation. Tampa Bay is coming off of an ugly loss and they will most likely bounce back. The game looked bad on the score sheet, but the Lightning ran into some good goaltending. That will be the case again in this matchup as well.
The Panthers are coming off a 5-1 win against the San Jose Sharks. Florida did everything right. Scored early and in every period. They were able to stop any good pushes that the Sharks had and Bobrovsky put up another 30 plus save effort. Plus, this team scored two power goals against the best penalty kill team in the league. The Panthers took care of the puck and ending up having ten different skaters on the score sheet. Some good trends for Florida is that the Panthers are 5-1 in their last 6 in the third game of a 3-in-4 and 6-2 in their last 8 home games. The Panthers have made a few of these home wins look easy, but this game won't have that feel to it.
