The Tampa Bay Lightning took care of the Devils in the first round of the NHL Playoffs last season four games to one, and the struggling Devils look unlike what they were last season. These teams will meet at the Prudential Center, and the gap between them has widened by a lot. Tampa Bay is once again atop the Eastern Conference while the Devils are at the very bottom of the East, which is a major topple from their eighth place and final playoff spot from a season ago. Tampa is averaging 3.81 goals per game compared to New Jersey’s 2.96 goals per game average.

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Lightning is led by Nikita Kucherov who has 38 points on the season, on 11 goals and 27 assists. Brayden Point leads the team in goals with 19 on 73 shots on goal. Kucherov has the team lead in assists this season. The goalies for Tampa, are Louis Domingue who is 10-4-0 this season along with Andrei Vaseilevskiy who is 9-3-1 this season. The Lightning has won four of their last five games, and are on a current two-game winning streak. That streak includes a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres who are the Lightning’s biggest threat as of now in the East.

New Jersey Devils

Taylor Hall leads New Jersey in points with 27 on eight goals and 19 assists. Kyle Palmieri has found the net 12 times this season which is the team high to this point. The goalies for New Jersey have been up and down all season as Keith Kinkaid is 9-6-5 and Cory Schneider has looked terrible with a 0-5-0 record when in the net this season and is allowing over four goals per game. New Jersey has lost each of its last five games. Their last win came against Montreal back on November 21st. It looks like the Devils are on their way to a last-place finish in the Eastern Conference.
