The Premier League relegation battle continues in full swing as 16th place Villa visit 18th place Bournemouth.

Bournemouth got a 3-1 victory against Brighton in their last Premier League fixture before being eliminated from the FA Cup by Arsenal. Prior to the Brighton game, however, they were on a 6-game winless run losing 5 in the process and had amassed a mere 4 points from their last 12 league games. It is no wonder then that they are a prime candidate for relegation this term but nothing is decided yet and the relegation battle will carry on until the last weeks of England's top tier competition. Bournemouth are slight favourites going into the weekend as they have intermittently gotten results against far superior opposition, having stolen points from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United this season while their home record is better than their opponents' away record.

Villa will visit the Vitality Stadium full of confidence after eliminating top 4 contenders Leicester City in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and advancing to the final in Wembley. Their recent league form though, has been very topsy-turvy having won 3, lost 3 and drawn 1 in their last 7 fixtures. Villa seem determined to avoid relegation as they have strengthened in this transfer window, signing 3 players from across Europe.

Both teams will be eager to get something out of this game where a win for Bournemouth will see them jump past Villa in the standings while Villa could extend their advantage over the Cherries to 5 points.

Last Time Out

The two sides last met in the reverse fixture back in August where, having taken an early 2-goal lead - from the penalty spot in the 2nd minute and from open play in the 12th - Bournemouth were content with conceding possession and trying to defend their advantage for the remainder of the match. Douglas Luiz did pull one back for Villa in the 71st minute with a superb strike from distance but they couldn't find a second and slumped to defeat.

Key Players

AFC Bournemouth

The goal scoring burden has been shared by Harry Wilson and Callum Wilson, the pair registering 7 and 6 goals respectively. They will be expected to get on the score sheet once again in order to get a vital win over Villa. Eddie Howe will also be depending on Ryan Fraser to pull the strings in midfield as he has done this season leading his team in assists, key passes and chances created.

Aston Villa

Jack Grealish has undoubtedly been Villa's best player this season, leading his team in everything from goals and assists to dribbles completed and key passes per match. Dean Smith will be hoping for his best form to increase their chances of surviving England's top flight.
