Can Manchester United Earn A Silverware This Season?

Many had doubted the former Manchester United player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – now the manager of the club, to lead United to a top four finish this season. But those doubters have been shut down with the performance of The Red Devils. Since the departure of Jose Mourinho, the club has enjoyed success not only in the Premier League but also in the FA Cup. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can be a full-time manager next season if, United are to win a Silverware this season. The Old Trafford club is still in three cup competitions and, the highlight of the season so far has come in the FA Cup – where they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. But that could change, United travel to Parc des Princes to play PSG in the second leg of the Champions League, a win here on aggregate score would guarantee Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side a quarter final berth.

The success of the team started with key players performing to their potential; Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Martial, Victor Lindelof and, Jesse Lingard have all come to the party when the team required them. We all know how good keeper David de Gea has been for United in their last two seasons. The most important results have come from their away fixtures – eight consecutive away wins – a record which has never been achieved in the club’s history; something that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will cherish all through his life.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s assigned objectives would have been to finish in the four and land a trophy this season. Former manager Jose Mourinho’s campaign started in a disastrous fashion but, the ‘Special One’ had won trophies for the club in the 2016-17 season, which include Europa League, League Cup, and, Community Shield.

Contenders for 3rd or 4th position in the Premier League

United have lost Martial and Lingard through injuries but that hasn’t halted their winning momentum in their in the Premier League – they now find themselves on 4th position after their comeback win over Southampton at Old Trafford this weekend. Only 2 positions are left in the top four to be filled as far as current form is concerned. Manchester United rivals for 3rd and 4th position are three teams – Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea. The Red Devils travel to Emirates at the weekend, they face Manchester City and Chelsea at the end of April – These fixtures will decide their chances of playing in the Champions League next season.

Hopeful of a Miracle on Wednesday night against PSG in UCL

After being stunned in first leg at Old Trafford. Manchester United find themselves 2-0 down going into the second leg. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was caught off guard in his tactics against PSG manager Thomas Tuchel, which was the difference between the two sides in the first leg. As far as the stats are concerned the odds are against United – No team has ever progressed to the next round of the Champions League after losing the first leg of a knockout match at home by two or more goals (34 previous cases).

Possible showdown against Manchester City for FA Cup Glory

There is a possibility that Manchester United could face City in the semi-final or final. However, for that to happen United will need to beat Wolves in the Quarter-final of the competition and City will need to defeat Swansea. Last season’s disappointment in the final against Chelsea can be overturned to a joyful Cup win this season and a permanent job would be there for the taking for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This trophy is by far their best chance of winning a Cup this season.
