Croatia snuck by Russia in their last game that ended 4-3 in pens. Their last two games have both been decided out of regulation time. After a hot start to the cup, Croatia isn’t looking as good as everyone thought they were. In their last game, Croatia couldn’t finish their limited chances. Though they stole 64% possession, only 3 shots were on target. Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric struggled though they came through in pens, both tucking away their chances. The Blazers are going to need to step on both ends of the pitch against England. Against England, Croatia has got to utilize the cross and put the ball up high for Mario Mandzukic. Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren needs to captain the defense. Croatia’s been rolling for a while. They’re going to need a big game all around to stop England.
England finds itself in the semifinals for the first time in 28 years. The Three Lions have played exceptional soccer throughout the World Cup. Jordan Pickford has been sensational as of late and the defense has been exceeding expectations. Jordan Henderson has done a great job as the sole midfielder in the center of the pitch. Harry Kane has been scoring goals and still has much more left in the tank. England has been gaining momentum and playing lights out. What would put them over the top would be for young spur Dele Alli and winger Raheem Sterling to play better. Raheem Sterling has been underwhelming this tournament. While the speedy Sterling constantly gets into space and in scoring position, he has no end game when he gets those opportunities. Alli has just been quiet. He’s one of the best young midfielders in the world. Hopefully, his goal in the last game helps him get comfortable in his first World Cup.
