Udinese travel to Turin to take on Juventus in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia with a quarter final spot up for grabs.

Juventus have won five of their last six matches in all competitions coming into this game which includes a Serie A victory against their Coppa opponents exactly a month ago where they defeated Udinese 3-1 at home. They will come into this game confident of making their way to a thirteenth consecutive quarter final appearance in the Coppa Italia even though their recent results have been mixed, to say the least. Their run of last three games started with a loss to Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana where they dominated possession but lost 3-1. They followed that up with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over a strong Cagliari side with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hattrick. Though they won their last game against Roma, they were arguably inferior on the pitch. Juventus should, however, progress in the competition against an inferior Udinese team but if Maurizio Sarri decides to rest key players and with the long list of injuries they have, Udinese might just pass this hurdle.

Udinese come into this game on a three-game winning streak after losing to Juventus in Turin a month ago. Since then, they won at home against Cagliari and Sassuolo and away at Lecce. In the Serie A, Udinese are battling for a Europa League spot, being just five points behind Cagliari in sixth. In the Coppa Italia, they have not managed to reach the quarter final in each of the last three seasons and they have now drawn arguably the toughest opponents they could have drawn in the round of 16. Their away record this season has been dismal, winning just two of nine games and losing six. If a Serie A table was made of only the away records of each top-tier team, Udinese would be in the relegation zone with seven points. Talking about their overall season, they have found it difficult to score goals while having conceded 1.4 goals per game, which is not a bad defensive record but has lead to a negative goal difference and could come to haunt them against a free scoring Juventus.

Last Time Out

Juventus were 3-1 victors over Udinese on matchday 16 of the Serie A 2019/20 season in which they controlled two-thirds of possession, created twice the number of chances (18 to Udinese's 9) and took more than twice the number of shots (24 to 11). Udinese could only manage a consolation goal deep into added time after a first half brace from Ronaldo and a goal from captain Leonardo Bonucci. Recent history between the two sides has not been kind to Udinese; they have lost their last 5 games against Juventus and have not won since August 23, 2015, winning just twice in the entirety of the last decade. Juventus will fancy their chances of coming out on top and making their way to the quarter final of the Coppa Italia.

Key Players

Juventus

After a slow start to the season by his ludicrous standards, Cristiano Ronaldo has started the new year with a bang, scoring 4 times in 2 matches, including a hattrick against 6th placed Cagliari. He is also the top scorer for his side with 14 goals, miles ahead of second best Higuain and Dybala, both of whom have scored 5. If Cristiano continues his fine form, he can single handedly decide the game for Juventus provided he is not rested by his manager. Paulo Dybala has also been key to this team after his resurgence this season following a slew of exit rumours in the summer. Another surprise performer this season has been Gonzalo Higuain who has formed an effective partnership with Ronaldo and Dybala and leads the team in assists, with 4 (tied with Rodrigo Bentancur). Within their crowded midfield, Miralem Pjanic has stood out as an essential cog in the Juventus machine, starting every game but one for the Old Lady this season and playing the full 90 minutes on 20 occasions.
