Salzburg (14/5) vs. Liverpool (4/5)
Champions League: 10 December 2019 at 5:55 PM(UK Time)
Venue: The Red Bull Arena

Liverpool travels away to Salzburg in what is going to be “do or die fixture” for both teams if they want to survive in the European Arena. Both clubs are still undefeated in their respective league, but things are quite tricky in Champions league. While a win or a draw would be enough for the champions to swiftly move to the next round, Salzburg will have to bid adieu to this competition if they fail to win.

As stated, Salzburg is sitting comfortably at the top of the table in the domestic league. In their previous game, They thrashed Genk by 4-1 to keep their hopes of reaching the next stage of European League alive.

Jesse Marsch’s team has been a major wonderment at the European stage, with the club being appreciated for their fearless and free-flowing football. They have scored 3.2 goals per match outscoring even Liverpool.

The cult of ERLING BRAUT HAALAND has been growing bigger and bigger with every match and his goalscoring ability has attracted some of the bigger names like Liverpool and Bayern. The teenage striker has scored 24 goals in 19 appearances and the club, once again, would be heavily dependent on him to break the defensive barrier.

The club would fight with all their might to pull out a victory at the home turf against Liverpool who had looked far from convincing in this competition up till now.

Last season too, Liverpool needed a win in their last match against Napoli in order to qualify for the Round of 16. However, things are bit better this season as they only need to avoid defeat this time. Their away record has been underwhelming. They have won two and lost two of their last four matches on their travels in the Champions League.

In a major blow to their upcoming hectic schedule, the club has lost their ever-reliable defensive midfielder – Fabinho – who is not likely to return before Christmas. Klopp has been rotating his squad aggressively but he has to play his full-strength squad on Tuesday. There are no other alternatives. The competition is at stake. And the club has never looked convincing even when they played their best 11.

The front three is set with Firmino, Mane, and Salah, as usual. Jordan Henderson will be playing as No. 6 in absence of Fabinho. Lovren has been declared fit and he is likely to pair with Van Dijk ahead of Joe Gomez.

  • Liverpool needed a win or draw. They also advance if Napoli lose at home to Genk.
  • Only Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has scored more times than Erling Haaland

A nail-biting match is on cards, perhaps the most interesting and in terms of significance, this is the first time RB Salzburg has reached this close to the knockout stage and they are literally on the verge of making history. However, for that, they have to achieve something seemingly impossible- to beat Liverpool.
