Free EPL Pick Manchester City vs Crystal Palace

With Manchester City effectively out of the title race, they look to maintain 2nd position when they host Crystal Palace in MD 23 of the Premier League.

It is no surprise that Manchester City are the highest scoring team in the league (62 goals in 22 matches) and by quite a margin, with Liverpool the next best having scored 50 in 21, but what is surprising is that they are 14 points behind Liverpool, having played one game more than their fierce rivals. Where they lost just 4 games in the entirety of last season, they have already lost 5 this term. City's home record is the 2nd best in the league and they've lost only 2 games. In their last 10 games in all competitions, they've won 9 and are on a 5-match winning streak. They must continue that form in order to keep their stranglehold on a Champions League spot.

Crystal Palace have not been in good form recently, having drawn their last three Premier League fixtures and been eliminated from the FA Cup by Championship side Derby County. They have won just once in their last 7 league games and look destined to fall to the bottom half of the table after they return from the Etihad.

Last Time Out

The last time these two teams met, Manchester City travelled to Selhurst Park and returned with all 3 points om matchday 9 of the Premier League 2019/20 season. Both teams were in better positions then than they are now, with City only 5 points behind leaders Liverpool and Palace in 6th place. City dominated that match and won through goals from Gabriel Jesus and David Silva while Ederson performed well in the 2nd half to keep a clean sheet.

Key Players

Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne has reclaimed his status as the best attacking midfielder in the Premier League this season after missing out much of last season through injury. Fernandinho has been key to City's defence in the absence of Aymeric Laporte while summer signing Rodrigo has filled in competently for Fernandinho at defensive midfield after his aforementioned move to centre back. Sergio Aguero has been slotting in goals for fun as usual and Raheem Sterling has continued to prove himself one of the best wingers in world football.

Crystal Palace

One of the best talents that Palace have at their disposal is Wilfried Zaha who shows with every passing game why he is one of the most sought after forwards in England. He is the top assist provider (2) of this team while also contributing with goals (3) when his team most needs them. Jordan Ayew is the top goalscorer having scored 6 while Luka Milijovevich has been pulling the strings in midfield, leading the team in successful passes and key passes per match. Milijovevich has also been one of the most consistent Palace players but is suspended for this game, which does hurt their chances of stealing at least a point from this game.
