Leaders Juve can go six points clear at the summit with a win
Struggling Napoli host Juventus on Matchday 21 of the Serie A on Sunday. The two teams couldn’t be further apart on form, with Gennaro Gattuso’s side 13th on the league table while the Old Lady find themselves leading the pack, with closest challengers Inter Milan also faltering in recent weeks. A first league title with the Bianconeri looks very much on the horizon for new manager, Maurizio Sarri.
Gattuso’s task was never going to be easy, but it looks harder than ever after their recent run of results. Napoli have won just two out of their last five matches. A 3-1 loss at Inter Milan was followed by a 1-0 loss at Lazio. The Gil Azzurri then recorded a 2-0 win over Perugia in the Coppa Italia, which was succeeded by a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Fiorentina, but they avenged their loss to Lazio, defeating by them by the same scoreline, this time in the Coppa Quarter-finals. A match against Juventus is the very last thing Gattuso would have wanted on his agenda and Napoli are really staring down the barrel with this one, though they come into the game on the back of a win.
The Bianconeri come into this match on perfect form with five wins from their last five matches, scoring 15 goals in the process. Juventus‘s brilliant run began with a 4-0 thrashing of Cagliari. They then won 2-1 at Roma before another 4-0 victory followed over Udinese in the Coppa. The Old Lady then edged Parma 2-1 before another clinical performance gave them a 3-1 victory over Roma in the Coppa Quarter-finals. Napoli is very unlikely to deter this Juventus side, not just because of their own problems with form, but also because Sarri’s side just seem to know how to win.

Last Time Out
The two teams played out an absolute nail-biter in September. Juventus raced to a three-goal lead with a little over an hour played. Danilo, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo all scored without response from Napoli. However Napoli, then under Carlo Ancelotti, roared back with goals from Kostas Manolas, Hirving Lozano and Giovanni di Lorenzo putting them level with less than ten minutes to play. In an incredible finish to the game, Kalidou Koulibaly sent the ball flying into his own net in injury-time to give Juventus a home win.
Lorenzo Insigne will be Napoli’s most important players. The Gli Azzurri have scored just four times in the last five games and three of those goals have come from the Italian’s foot. Insigne has managed seven goals and four assists this season so far, but a goal against the league leaders could be worth its weight in gold and as important as, if not more than, any other.
With Kalidou Koulibaly out, a lot of the defensive duties will fall on the shoulders of Kostas Manolas. The Greek centre-back, has, however displayed on more than one occasion that he is capable of dealing with the pressure. Juventus have a fantastic forward line, arguably the best in the league this season, and Manolas will have his work cut out. A solid performance from him, however, could help Napoli accomplish the seemingly impossible.
Gonzalo Higuain will be looking to score against his old employers again. The Argentine has been brilliant so far this season, silencing his critics once more. Though he has scored only eight goals, his link-up play with fellow Argentine Paulo Dybala and Ronaldo has been a real positive for Sarri’s men. More will be expected of the centre-forward, who will be eager to get on the scoresheet once more.
Aaron Ramsey will also be raring to go against Napoli. The 29-year old has shown glimpses of his quality this season and has also chipped in with a couple of goals. Ramsey has the skill to orchestrate attacking moves and will have space and time in the number 10 role behind two very good finishers in Higuain and Ronaldo. The Welshman will hope he can pull the strings again with the help of the rest of the midfield and help Juve take another step towards the Serie A title.
The home team will be without Kalidou Koulibaly, Nikola Maksimovic, Faouzi Ghoulam, Dries Mertens, Amin Younes and Kevin Malcuit due to injuries.
Predicted Line-up: Ospina; Rui, di Lorenzo, Manolas, Hysaj; Zielinski, Demme, Ruiz; Insigne, Milik, Callejon.
Giorgino Chiellini and Merih Demiral are both out through long-term injuries, but Sarri has his entire squad to choose from otherwise.
Predicted Line-up: Szczesny; Sandro, de Ligt, Bonucci, Cuadrado; Matuidi, Pjanic, Bernadeschi; Ramsey; Ronaldo, Higuain.
