Real Madrid vs. PSG

PSG vs. Real Madrid

Champions League

Parc des Princes

2:45 PM, Tuesday 03-06-2018

Team News PSG: The obvious news on PSG is that they are without $223 million dollar Brazilian striker Neymar. The good news is that his backup, Angel Di Maria is one of the most sensational players in the world on his day and can easily replace the skill of the striker if he finds his stride early with Mbappe and Cavani. PSG are led in scoring by Neymar and Cavani with 6 goals a piece and Mbappe has 4 to go along with his striking mates. Neymar and Mbappe have 3 assists a piece and Kurzawa has two. PSG lost the first leg 3-1, but did manage to knick an away goal while playing at the Bernebau. If they were to win this game 2-0, they would go through on away goals and advance to the quarterfinals. Parc des Princes is a tough atmosphere to play in, so we will see what the crowd has to say about the Madrid players.

Team News Madrid: Ronaldo has 11 goals in 7 matches in the Champions League and scored two in their last match up  (a pk which he did not earn and a rebound that hit him in the knee and deflected into the net). Nevertheless, he helped his team get the result, but aside from those he was essentially nonexistent in the match. Marcelo had the other goal, giving him one and besides Ronaldo, their next leading scorer is Benzema with 2 and then Bale with 1. Madrid are a tricky side to predict this year. They are essentially out of contention for the La Liga title, with Barcelona sitting comfortably in first, and they did not win their group as Tottenham knocked them off to claim first. However, they looked great against PSG in the first round and if they were to score first in this match up, that would all but lock it up for them, meaning PSG would need three goals to force overtime.

This is a powerhouse match up and tough to predict. The edge goes to Madrid based on experience and skill. They have more experience in later rounds and more veteran players. PSG looked dominant at the beginning of the first game but then Madrid settled in and got it done. Somehow they always find a way, which is why they will win this match and advance to the quarterfinals.
