Free English Premier League Picks Southampton vs. Manchester United
Southampton welcome Manchester United on Saturday at the St. Mary Stadium in the Premier League. The Saints will look to inflict more pain on United having started off with two consecutive defeats, Southampton have won back to back games against Brighton last weekend and a narrow win over Fulham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. Manchester United, on the other, were left disappointed once again by aaha strike in the last minute of the match. A draw against Wolves and a defeat to Crystal Palace has already overshadowed their performance in the opening against Chelsea at home. In all competitions, Manchester United have won more away games at St. Mary’s against Southampton than any other side (10 wins).
Southampton have been inconsistent but have found the net more often than not - The Saints have found the net at least once in their last 15 Premier League home games, since a 0-0 draw with Newcastle in October 2018. Only between August 1992-April 1993 have Saints had a longer such run in the competition (17), while only Manchester City (21), Arsenal (19) and Liverpool (17) on a longer current run of scoring in home games. Ralph Hansenhuttl would hope is side can continue their goal scoring against United, but his team haven’t capitalised after leading - Southampton have lost nine Premier League games against Manchester United after leading in the game – more than any other team has done so against another in Premier League history. Hasenhuttl will be concerned after losing Redmond and Djenepo to injuries, meanwhile Ryan Bertrand’s is expected to start having recovered from an ankle injury. Another injury blow to the Saints is Micheal Obafemi’s fitness - who was cramping in the last game is unlikely to find a place in the squad.
Manchester United are in need for a solid performances from their key players in the squad and fans would be confident of gaining three points - however, Palace’s victory last weekend again showed us why the Premier League is the most competitive league in football. Solskjaer would be worried about his young attackers who haven’t been clinical in front of the net. Marital, Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Daniel James and Mason Greenwood are all young talented but they lack experience and the managers doesn’t have more options after the departure of Lakaku and Sanchez. The Red Devils have looked dangerous on the counter, it's just that they haven’t finished the game when they have to. Manchester United have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 Premier League games (4-0 vs Chelsea on the opening day), shipping 22 goals in that time while scoring just 19 in return (W5 D3 L6). Diogo Dalot hasn’t recovered yet and is sidelined for the game on Saturday. Martial is doubtful, following last week's match against Palace.
