Fanduel Boxing Pick Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. II

Anthony Joshua will face Andy Ruiz Jr. from Saudi Arabia in a re-match that will help clarify who the best heavyweight in the world is. In their first fight, Andy Ruiz Jr. won by 7th round knockout after the referee declared that Joshua could no longer continue. Joshua was standing, but didn’t look fully committed to continuing and was backing up against the ropes. This cost him dearly and in a surprise night of boxing Andy Ruiz Jr. scored a huge upset and got the 7th Round stoppage.

Joshua is 30, 6’6 and 237.8 lbs with a 82 inch reach. Ruiz Jr. is 30, 6’2 and 283.7 lbs with a 74 inch reach. That is almost a 50 pound difference between Joshua and Ruiz Jr. This is a significant amount that could either work for or against Ruiz Jr. As long as the conditioning and speed is there for Ruiz Jr. he should give himself a chance to get another huge win. Anthony Joshua needs to improve on using his physical advantages in the rematch to control the distance. Joshua has a 4 inch height advantage and an 8 inch reach advantage. However, these advantages didn’t really matter during their first fight and the man with the bigger heart, Andy Ruiz Jr. won the fight and significantly altered the heavyweight picture.

Ruiz Jr. may not have the advantage in height, reach, physique or popularity, but he does have the advantage in hand speed and ring activity. Ruiz Jr. has some of the fastest hands in all of boxing, not just the heavyweight division. Ruiz Jr.’s hand speed was the difference in the first fight and Joshua could not recover or regain momentum after being knocked down. Joshua had been hurt before in his career against Wladimir Klitschko in 2017. Klitschko knocked Joshua down and looked to have the upper hand. But, Joshua was able to come back and get a signature knockout that would propel him to further superstardom and force Klitschko into retirement. It was one of the great heavyweight fights in recent memory and established Joshua as a force in the heavyweight division.

Fanduel Boxing Pick Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. II

The next time we saw Joshua compromised in the ring was against Andy Ruiz Jr. in June of 2019. Before the fight, Joshua had been knocked down in training and he was already compromised before even stepping in the ring against a short notice opponent in Ruiz Jr. Perhaps, Joshua took Ruiz Jr. too lightly and will not want to make the same mistake again. Most thought Joshua could whether the adversity and come back to win.

But, Joshua was unable to and didn’t use his physical advantages to beat Ruiz Jr. If Joshua doesn’t correct these mistakes, then he will face the same fate again and Ruiz Jr. will come out on top once again. It’s a poor style matchup for Joshua and Ruiz Jr.’s hand speed and boxing skills will be too much for Joshua to deal with. I expect Ruiz Jr. to score a late knockout and once again pull off the upset. Tune in on DAZN to see the Battle of the Dunes.
