Michael Page (13-0) vs. Paul Daley (40-16-2) (TV: DAZN)
Main Event: Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix
February 16, 2019 10:00 PM ET Mohegan Sun Arena (Uncasville, Connecticut)
Odds: Michael Page -225 Paul Daley +175
The Welterweight World Grand Prix is being staged by Bellator to determine their Welterweight Champion. Michael Page could win the whole tournament. Page is an athletic marvel capable of striking opponents in ways never before seen inside the cage. Page moves differently than other fighters and is difficult to time for his overmatched opponents. His unique movements and long limbs allow him to land strikes that are unorthodox and unexpected. The fight is at 170 lbs and Page, 31 stands at 6’3 with a 77 inch reach. Page is a great kick boxer, with 8 wins by knockout and 3 by submission.
Paul Daley is a great fighter in his own right, but will likely be physically overmatched in this fight. Both Page and Daley are British fighters and this will be a big fight for all English fight fans. Daley is 35, standing at 5’9 with a 74 inch reach. In order to have a chance against Page, Daley will need to stay on the outside and attempt to take down the slimmer Page. Daley has more miles logged on his fight odometer and is coming off a loss. Page is undefeated in his 13 fights. Daley is coming off a unanimous decision loss to a 40 year old Jon Fitch on May 12th, 2018. Daley is 7-3 in his last 10 fights, but has struggled against top competition with recent losses to Fitch, Rory MacDonald (by submission), and Douglas Lima (unanimous decision loss).
Page might be the most talented athlete in the Welterweight division and should get the win either by knockout or decision over Daley. Page will likely prove too slippery to be taken down by Daley and will end up dominating the fight standing up. Page is coming off a TKO win (retirement) over David Rickels from May 25th, 2018. Page has yet to really fight big names in his career. But, that should change over the course of this Grand Prix tournament. If Page gets past Daley he would fight Douglas Lima in the next round.
Pick: Michael Page -225
