With the US Open less than a week away, the buzz is already started with Tiger chasing Jack, will Koepka keep dominating the majors, should DJ be ranked #1 in the world and is Spieth on track for a major win. All great headlines for the US Open and while all of these players pose to make a run next week, I’m here to showcase the players that no one is talking about and how you will find great value and take advantage of the Vegas odds.
Contenders For The US Opens
Xander Schauffele, 25-1 Odds
Xander is always under the radar and yet has an impressive resume for the past two years that Vegas still hasn’t taken notice of yet. He is young, talented and finds a way to win no matter the odds. Starting with the BMW championship 2 years ago, we found a way to make it into the last spot for the FedEx Cup Championship to win the Tour Championship in 2018 to beat Justin Thomas by one stroke.
Schaufele is currently ranked No. 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings and the 25-year-old already has an impressive track record in major championships. Finished tied for second at the 2019 Masters, tied for second at the 2018 Open Championship and finished inside the top 10 in each of the last two U.S. Opens. He is a great bet for a player that has proven himself over and over again for the past two years in the majors!
Justin Thomas, 25/1
Thomas has struggled this year but mainly due to his wrist injury that started at the end of last season and took a break since the Masters.
Pebble Beach history: Thomas hasn’t had the best finishes at Pebble Beach in his career. He missed the cut when he played the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as a rookie in 2014. Also played the unofficial mixed field event in the fall.
Worth noting: Thomas did not play from the Masters until the Memorial because of a bruised bone in his wrist, which he now says is fully healed. He added the Canadian Open to try to shed some of the rust and has been playing will the first two days so far with Brooks Koepka as his opening playing partner. Long shot here but there is a reason by Thomas has won 9 times on tour and one of those wins was a PGA Championship!
Phil Mickelson 30/1 Odds
Phil has probably the most success going into this tournament next week. He is a five-time winner at Pebble Beach, including a three-shot victory earlier this season at the Pebble Beach Pro Am. He has something to prove to everyone since everyone is talking about Tiger and the Masters victory. If he wins next weekend, he will finally complete his career Grand Slam on his 49th birthday!
Cause for concern: Mickelson’s has only one top-35 finish in nine starts since a T-18 at the Masters this year!
