Sports Betting In Iowa Is Now Legal

Iowa is one of the few states that have legalized sports betting in the United States. On May 13, 2019, Iowa sports betting law was signed by their governor Kim Reynolds. The state subsequently started to accept bets on August 15.

At the moment people who want to use mobile betting in Iowa, have to register in person before they are allowed to bet on their phone. This requirement will be effective until January 1, 2021.

The law in Iowa allows people who are 21 years old and older to place bets on any sporting event. They are allowed to make bets at any of Iowa’s 19 casino’s and online if the person actually visits a casino in person to verify that they are of age to place wagers. Bets on fantasy sports are also allowed in this bill, but it must be through a company like Draft Kings and Fan Duel.

There are currently some restrictions that were placed on betting on sports in Iowa. The people can bet on college game results, but they can’t bet on something like how much rebounds a player in college will grab.

Iowans can bet on college and professionally sports. Sports betting have been a controversial topic in the United States, but since the Supreme Court ruled betting in the USA is now legal a lot of states are moving towards finalizing it. Throughout the UK sports betting is legal, so it shouldn’t have taken so long for all states to have some form of legal gambling available to their citizens.

In a report it was stated that the Iowa casinos took nearly 40 million dollars in wagers in its first month of legalize sports betting. Sports betting is very lucrative ad states will try to cash in on some of the money that the sportsbooks are making.
