UFC Fight Night 158 Pick Justin Gaethje vs. Donald Cerrone

Justin Gaethje will take on Donald Cerrone in the Main Event of UFC Fight Night from Vancouver, Canada. This will be an exciting, action packed fight as both fighters are fan favorites. Gaethje will look to continue his streak of 2 consecutive wins when he fights Cerrone. Gaethje is a come forward fighter that fights with heart, courage and skill. Gaethje has two career losses to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier and has since recovered to knockout James Vick and most recently, Edson Barboza.

Cerrone is one of the more active fighters in the UFC having fought 3 times already in 2019. Cerrone has 12 career losses, in part because he does not duck opponents and is willing to fight anyone he is matched up against. Cerrone is coming off a TKO 2nd Round loss to Tony Ferguson. Ferguson is a great fighter that most fighters would avoid. Cerrone bravely took the fight, but was stopped after the 2nd Round once his right eye was swollen shut following Ferguson’s onslaught of punches.

UFC Fight Night 158 Pick Justin Gaethje vs. Donald Cerrone

Gaethje is 30, 5’11 and 155 lbs with a 70 inch reach. Cerrone is 36, 6’1 and 155 lbs with a 73 inch reach. Cerrone is a tough fighter with decent striking and wrestling abilities. Cerrone can throw a myriad of kicking techniques to weaken his opponent. Cerrone should use his kicks to try and keep Gaethje on the outside. Gaethje will look to push the pace and get on the inside to land punches from close range. Gaethje’s style sometimes is to take a punch to land one. Gaethje can land powerful overhand counter rights that could lead to the end of the fight. Cerrone will need to be careful of getting into a brawl against Gaethje as that is how he knocked out Edson Barboza and James Vick.

This should mostly be a standup fight and whoever is more successful in controlling the distance will likely win. Gaethje has the advantage in punching power, boxing skills and speed. Cerrone has the advantage in size, experience and kicking. The winner of this fight establishes themselves as a contender at 155 lbs. As one of the most exciting, come forward fighters in the UFC, a Gaethje fight is always sure to deliver fireworks. Cerrone will not shy away from the challenge and has shown the ability to win both a technical fight or an all out brawl. An exciting style matchup this will be a fan friendly fight that is not to be missed.
