UFC Fight Night: Rafael dos Anjos vs. Leon Edwards

UFC Fight Night

Main Event: Rafael dos Anjos (29-11-0) vs. Leon Edwards (17-3-0)
Fight odds: Leon Edwards -140 Rafael dos Anjos +110

UFC returns to San Antonio, Texas at the AT&T Center, with the main event taking place between veteran Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos against Englishmen Leon Edwards. dos Anjos is a former lightweight champion, after two consecutive losses against Colby Covington and Kamaraj Usman, the Brazilian needed a win and having found his mojo back against Kevin Lee at UFC Fight Night 152 he faces a tough ask against a man who’s on a seven-fight winning streak. Leon Edwards would be eager to prove himself in the octagon, his two previous wins came against Gunnar Nelson and Donald Cerrone. The bookmakers have made Leon Edwards their favourite to win the welterweight contest at -140.

Reach Advantage

Edwards enters the match with a 4” reach advantage over dos Anjos which could well and truly go in the youngsters favor and not to mention the winning momentum his in, he isn’t someone who knocks people out, but he is someone who waits for his opponents to come at him and when that happens he counter punches and uses the jab to his advantage.

Strike Power

dos Anjos is the better one when it comes strike power, he can mix punches and kicks when he wants to – Edwards has a solid defence but dos Anjos would feel he’s got the power to knock the Englishmen and prove the doubters wrong. Since he’s shifted to 170 pounds, he’s won 4 and lost 2 – the losses came against Usman and Colby Covington.

Both of them aren’t known to be a specialist in this aspect, Edwards has got good technique and speed, it’s been four years since he lost to Usman – which showed how good a wrestler he is. dos Anjos, on the other, did lose to Khabib, Covington and Usman – who are all excellent wrestlers, but his bout against Kevin Lee was more than decent in this aspect.

Two of them posses a threat to each other when it comes to grappling, Edwards is solid in this department but dos Anjos is a tough nut to crack if your inexperienced – in fact the Brazilian has won two bouts through submission from his last 3. dos Anjos would consider his grappling game to be his strength against Edwards, Anjos experience in dealing with opponents on the ground makes this bout even more interesting.

Match Prediction

This is will not go through round three and I see Edwards winning this bout, his reach advantage and his defensive game should earn him a good victory over an excellent fighter in Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian will once again look for his favourite submission arm triangle – this is were Edwards would be tested. No matter what the result holds, it will be an exciting fight to watch for UFC fans across the globe.
